Ever wondered “WHY”?
While on one of my usual journeys, I came across a man who was 77 years old. Did he look his age? Of course not! He was a brown man who appeared to be Hispanic. He had the eyes of a youth but a figure of a man who has encountered life harshly. He was in pain, physically. He kept a smile and laugh throughout his conversation. He began to share his story.
Does this ever happen to you? A complete stranger opens up to you about their past and journey of triumph to innerself awareness with God? Ever felt unsure as to WHY they are reopening up the very wounds that helped to form the person you face today? We all have story to share.
I realize in the times we live in, especially now, everyone is seeking an understanding of self. We are seeking answers to our WHY.
This veteran witnessed horror at a young age. His mother was raped by an unknown man and thus he was created. He never had a father. His mother raised him in a strict household where he received beatings. He grew up with fear in his heart. When he was a teen, he was drafted. He saw death. He even cheated death and still wondered WHY.
I will call him “Juan”
As I listened to him, compassion warms my heart. I had other things to do but for some reason his story needed to be said. Juan told me that he had recently learned of his heritage. He found out he was from Congo, Asia, Scotland, and Native American. He almost went into tears. Juan finally learned about his background after asking WHY for many years. He even mentioned how he has a grandchild who has features from his Scotland background. How cool is that!? A divine reflection of ancestral heritage travelled down to 2 generations later.
I had been battling depression for about three years. Working was my scapegoat. Talking about my own battles was on mute. This year almost made me lose my mind! In a good way a few times and others not so much. And I also wanted to give folks a piece of it. Amazing how hearing someone else’s story can snap you out of your own mental state.
Amazingly after hearing him speak of intense details of death after death experience, a thought travelled to my mind. I said, " Well Juan, you are hear to share your story with someone ele."
BOOM GOES THE FLYING KITE!
No one likes the ugly details of any story.
No one wants to reveal the imperfections of our history. We would rather hide it and keep it moving.
I am glad that he shared his story. It was my reminder. This man was a walking miracle.
Yes! You are not alone in your circumstance.
We all have fought battles we didn’t know we were equipped to fighting. And some battles we would rather not mention at all.
I innerstood why I he and I met deeply. We both needed a fist bump of optimism and faith!
After years of asking WHY, he got his answer. Juan was grateful that he finally knew who he was and where he came from.
Juan is just like you and I. We all feel. We all have conquered battles. We all love. We all have lost. We all want someone to hear our story. A story of not knowing why until NOW.
To finally innerstand self…is the greatest answer to our WHY.
That is the answer to our question.
